Transferring Photos to your Computer from your Camera : Study Guide
By: Myrna Maas
The main objective for this project is to educate newer computer users on how to transfer digital photos from digital cameras to home computers. Since there are two methods, each will be explained separately so to not confuse the user.
- Turn on computer.
- Log into personal settings.
- Gather camera and USB cable.
- Insert cable into corresponding slot on camera.
- Insert other end of cable into computer USB port
- Turn on camera.
- Wait for the camera/scanner wizard window to appear on screen.
- If given a list full of options, choose Microsoft scanner and camera wizard and click ok.
- Choose which photos to download or select all at the lower right side of the window.
- Click next.
- Type a name for your photos.
- Click browse and select a location to save your photos.
- Click the small white square to delete your photos off of the camera when finished.
- Click next.
- Watch the screen as the photos begin to download to the computer.
- Click nothing on other options window.
- Click next.
- Click finish.
- Turn off camera.
- Unplug cable from computer.
- Unplug cable from camera.
- Put cable and camera away to their designated places.
- Open folder that contains photos.
- View photos.
- Enjoy!
General target audience will be older users who are relatively new to computers. Users will have a very limited knowledge of basic computer terms and definitions and as such the project will have to work around these difficulties.
To date this will be the most difficult audience to design for; their attention much different from younger or more experienced audiences. Colors will need to remain slightly muted, and content will need to be very straight forward with logical explanations of steps.
Users who would be using this tutorial would need limited previous training before taking advantage of the tutorial.
- General knowledge on using a computer for basic needs.
- Ability to read.
- Basic problem solving skills.
- Basic eye-hand coordination.
So long as the audience has the ability to complete simple tasks, they would ideally be able to sit and read through a hands-on tutorial on how to complete a task.
CONSIDERATION OF DIFFERENT LEARNING ABILITIES |
While creating this project I am going to focus on three basic types of learning abilities.
- Visual learning
- Hands-on learning
- Assisted learning
For individuals who learn primarily by visually looking at the material and then applying what they’ve seen to the topic at hand; I’m going to focus a good deal of attention to colors, icons, and screen captures of key points throughout the tutorial.
For individuals who rely on time for hands-on learning, I am going to include instances where the user is forced to follow along on their own computer while the tutorial is taking place. This will be an optional addition, but should be a key aspect for this group of users.
Lastly, for the portion of the audience that looks for assistance through what they are learning, a series of quizzes will be included in the tutorial to assist in user participation and encourage learning. By the end of the tutorial, the user will be quizzed a final time, to assure the maximum amount of memorization for what has been offered by the tutorial.
HOW TO TEST FOR UNDERSTATNDING |
Towards the end of the project I am going to take time to form a questionnaire. This questionnaire will be used to gather feedback on test questions as well as color schemes and general information on content that will be included.
Based on the information that will be gathered, changes will be made in the tutorial to properly accommodate the opinions of a wider audience than that of who will be using the tutorial. By doing this I hope to possibly increase the audience that could be using the tutorial in the future.
WHY THIS PROJECT IS A NEED |
The idea of this project came about after a conversation with my mother. She is the basis of what type of audience I will be looking for for the tutorial. While talking to her I learned that she was becoming discouraged from using her new electronics because she couldn’t’ figure out how to use them.
After showing her some online references on the subject, she became even further discouraged. I then looked through the websites that I referred her to, and realized that the audience they were aiming for had a much larger knowledge for electronics and basic online skills. There was no tutorial available for users like my mother. Because of this, I want to use this project as a chance to help expand the knowledge of older audiences who haven’t had the chances to learn some of the skills that most of us consider “basic knowledge”.
